Now, you are shown all the city and Great Work plots in your chosen region. Click on a city plot to see all the available resources along with a short description about the city. The resources indicators show the amount of coal, ore, oil, water and wind available at that site.
Build a City
Building a city, maintaining inferstructure and keeping your sims happy can be hectic. Key commands are helpful tools that will make any mayor's life easier.
===InterfaceSurveying for Resources===Before constructing your city, use the data maps to locate the resource deposits, water aquifer and wind direction of your site. You can access various data maps through the tab at the bottom right side of your screen. The water data map button reveals the city's water table. The darker blue an area is the more water is contains.  The coal data map button reveals the city's underground coal deposits. The darker grey an area is the more coal it contains. The ore data map button reveals the city's underground ore deposits. The darker brown an area is the more ore it contains. The oil data map button reveals the city's oil reservoirs. The darker black or grey an area is the more oil it contains. *If you want to mine ore, coal or drill oil, avoid constructing buildings on top of deposits. Mines and wells also produce pollution and lower the land value of nearby areas. Be sure to keep high wealth residential zones away from these dirty locations. The wind data map shows the blue arrows that indicate the direction of the wind blowing over your city.  *Air pollution is an important source of unhappiness for your Sims. Air pollution follows the direction of the wind through the city. Be sure to construct coal and oil power plants and level 1 tech industrial buildings at the edge of your city, in the direction of the blue arrows.
Laying Roads
Before you can build anything, your city must have a road connection to the regional highway. Regional highway connects your city to the rest of the region. It is how moving vans, construction crews, immigrants and tourists enter your city.

*A short medium density avenue is ideal for regional highway connection. Avenues are wider and can handle more traffic than normal roads. They have 6 lanes while roads have only 4.

Roads are the essential building blocks of a city. They carry not only traffic but also water, power and sewage through your city. Roads must be constructed before zones and structures can be built.
